Publication Ethics

The Journal of Robotics and Intelligent Systems (JRIS) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and research integrity. The journal follows internationally recognized ethical guidelines, including the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices, to ensure the publication of high-quality scholarly research.

All participants in the publication process—including authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher—are expected to adhere to the ethical principles outlined below.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to JRIS must ensure that:

  • The submitted work is original and has not been published previously.
  • The manuscript is not under consideration by another journal simultaneously.
  • All data presented are accurate, reliable, and honestly reported.
  • Appropriate citations are provided for all sources and previous work.
  • All listed authors have made significant scholarly contributions to the research.
  • All authors have reviewed and approved the final manuscript before submission.
  • Permission has been obtained for the use of copyrighted materials, figures, tables, or datasets where required.
  • Any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest are disclosed.
  • Sources of research funding are acknowledged.
  • Human and animal research complies with applicable ethical standards and institutional regulations.

Authors are responsible for the accuracy of all information contained in their manuscripts.

Authorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research.

Individuals who have provided technical assistance, funding, language editing, or general supervision but have not made significant scholarly contributions should be acknowledged rather than listed as authors.

Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors after submission must be approved by all authors and justified to the editorial office.

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must submit only original work.

Plagiarism in any form—including:

  • Copying text without attribution,
  • Self-plagiarism,
  • Duplicate publication,
  • Improper paraphrasing,
  • Unauthorized use of figures or tables,

is considered unethical publishing behavior.

All submissions may be screened using plagiarism-detection software before peer review and prior to publication.

Manuscripts with unacceptable levels of plagiarism will be rejected.

Data Integrity

Authors must present research findings honestly and accurately.

Fabrication, falsification, selective reporting of results, inappropriate image manipulation, or intentional omission of relevant data constitute scientific misconduct and are unacceptable.

Editors may request access to raw data during the review process when necessary.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools

The use of artificial intelligence tools (such as generative AI or large language models) to assist with language editing, grammar improvement, or formatting should be disclosed in the manuscript where appropriate.

AI tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the integrity, originality, or accountability of scholarly work.

Authors remain fully responsible for all content submitted to the journal.

Conflict of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, institutional, professional, or personal relationships that could influence—or reasonably appear to influence—the research or editorial decisions.

When conflicts exist, appropriate measures will be taken to ensure an objective and unbiased review process.

Peer Review Ethics

Reviewers are expected to:

  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Review manuscripts objectively and constructively.
  • Provide evidence-based recommendations.
  • Declare conflicts of interest.
  • Decline review invitations when unable to provide an impartial assessment.
  • Avoid using unpublished information for personal or professional advantage.

Editorial Responsibilities

Editors are responsible for:

  • Making impartial publication decisions based solely on scientific merit.
  • Maintaining confidentiality throughout the editorial process.
  • Selecting qualified reviewers.
  • Managing conflicts of interest.
  • Ensuring a fair and unbiased peer-review process.
  • Addressing ethical concerns promptly and transparently.

Editorial decisions shall not be influenced by authors' nationality, institutional affiliation, race, gender, religion, political beliefs, or commercial interests.

Research Involving Humans or Animals

Research involving human participants or animals must comply with applicable institutional, national, and international ethical standards.

Where applicable, manuscripts should include:

  • Approval from an appropriate ethics committee or institutional review board (IRB);
  • A statement confirming informed consent from participants; and
  • Compliance with relevant ethical guidelines and regulations.

Editors may request supporting documentation before publication.

Corrections and Retractions

JRIS is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record.

If significant errors are identified after publication, the journal may publish:

  • Corrections (Errata),
  • Corrigenda,
  • Expressions of Concern, or
  • Retractions,

depending on the nature and severity of the issue.

Retractions will follow internationally accepted best practices and COPE recommendations.

Complaints and Appeals

Authors may appeal editorial decisions by submitting a written explanation to the Editor-in-Chief.

Appeals will be reviewed independently, and additional reviewers may be consulted where appropriate.

Complaints regarding editorial conduct or publication ethics will be handled fairly, confidentially, and in accordance with COPE guidance.

Research Misconduct

The journal takes allegations of research misconduct seriously.

Examples include:

  • Plagiarism;
  • Duplicate publication;
  • Data fabrication;
  • Data falsification;
  • Citation manipulation;
  • Image manipulation;
  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest;
  • Authorship disputes;
  • Peer-review manipulation.

Where misconduct is suspected, the journal will conduct an investigation following COPE guidelines and may contact authors' institutions if necessary.

Appropriate editorial actions—including rejection, correction, or retraction—may be taken.

Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright to their work unless otherwise specified by the journal's publishing policy.

Published articles are distributed under the journal's selected license, and authors agree to the applicable terms at the time of publication.
