Peer Review Process

The Journal of Robotics and Intelligent Systems (JRIS) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of scholarly publishing through a rigorous, fair, and transparent peer-review process. All submitted manuscripts undergo editorial screening and independent peer review to ensure the quality, originality, and scientific integrity of the published research.

Initial Editorial Assessment

Upon submission, each manuscript is evaluated by the Editorial Office to determine whether it:

  • Falls within the aims and scope of the journal;
  • Complies with the journal's submission guidelines;
  • Meets the required standards of language and presentation;
  • Adheres to the journal's ethical policies; and
  • Demonstrates sufficient scientific quality for peer review.

Manuscripts that do not satisfy these requirements may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected without external review.

Peer Review Model

JRIS employs a double-blind peer review process, in which:

  • The identities of authors are concealed from reviewers.
  • The identities of reviewers are concealed from authors.

This review model promotes impartiality and helps ensure objective evaluation of submitted manuscripts.

Reviewer Selection

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening are assigned to an Associate Editor or Handling Editor, who invites at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise. Reviewers are selected based on their academic qualifications, research experience, publication record, and absence of conflicts of interest.

Authors may suggest potential reviewers during submission; however, the final selection of reviewers is solely at the discretion of the Editorial Board.

Review Criteria

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts according to several criteria, including:

  • Originality and novelty;
  • Scientific and technical quality;
  • Research methodology;
  • Accuracy and validity of results;
  • Significance of the findings;
  • Clarity of presentation;
  • Quality of references and literature review;
  • Relevance to the journal's scope; and
  • Compliance with ethical and publication standards.

Reviewers provide constructive comments intended to improve the quality of the manuscript.

Editorial Decision

Based on the reviewers' reports and the recommendation of the Handling Editor, the Editor-in-Chief makes one of the following decisions:

  • Accept without revision;
  • Accept with minor revisions;
  • Major revisions required;
  • Reject with encouragement to resubmit after substantial revision; or
  • Reject.

The Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to make the final publication decision.

Revision Process

Authors receiving revision requests should submit:

  • A revised manuscript;
  • A detailed response to reviewers explaining how each comment has been addressed; and
  • Any additional supporting documents requested by the editor.

Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation when appropriate.

Confidentiality

All manuscripts submitted to JRIS are treated as confidential documents. Editors and reviewers must not disclose, discuss, or use unpublished information contained in submitted manuscripts except as required for the peer-review process.

Conflict of Interest

Editors and reviewers must declare any conflicts of interest that could influence their evaluation of a manuscript. Individuals with significant conflicts of interest will not participate in the review or editorial decision-making process.

Authors are also required to disclose any financial, institutional, or personal relationships that could influence the research or its interpretation.

Research Integrity

JRIS is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics. Submitted manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism-detection software. Manuscripts containing plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, image manipulation, or other forms of research misconduct will be rejected and may be subject to further editorial action in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Review Timeline

JRIS aims to provide authors with an efficient and timely review process. While review times may vary depending on reviewer availability and manuscript complexity, the journal strives to complete the initial peer-review process within 4–8 weeks of submission.

Appeals

Authors who believe an editorial decision was based on a factual error or misunderstanding may submit a written appeal to the Editor-in-Chief. Appeals are considered carefully, and the decision after appeal shall be final.
