AI Policy

The Journal of Robotics and Intelligent Systems (JRIS) recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, including generative AI and large language models (LLMs), are increasingly used to support research and scholarly writing. The journal supports the responsible and transparent use of AI while maintaining the principles of academic integrity, originality, accountability, and scientific rigor.

Authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to comply with the following policy when AI tools are used during the research, writing, review, or editorial processes.

Use of AI by Authors

Authors may use AI tools to assist with tasks such as:

Improving grammar, spelling, and language.
Enhancing readability and clarity.
Assisting with code development or debugging.
Supporting data analysis and visualization.
Summarizing background literature for research planning.
Generating illustrations or graphical abstracts, where appropriate.

The use of AI must not compromise the originality, accuracy, or integrity of the research.

Author Responsibility

Authors remain fully responsible for:

The accuracy of all information presented in the manuscript.
The originality of the work.
The validity of the research methods and conclusions.
Proper citation of all sources.
Compliance with publication ethics.
Ensuring that AI-generated content does not contain fabricated, misleading, or plagiarized material.

The use of AI does not transfer responsibility from the authors.

Disclosure of AI Use

Authors must disclose any significant use of generative AI tools that contributed to the preparation of the manuscript.

Examples include the use of AI for:

Drafting or revising substantial sections of text.
Generating figures or images.
Producing computer code.
Conducting data analysis.
Translating or extensively editing scientific content.

A disclosure statement should be included in the manuscript under the section "Declaration of Generative AI Use."

AI-assisted language editing

The authors used ChatGPT (OpenAI) solely to improve the grammar and readability of the manuscript. The authors reviewed, edited, and verified all content and accept full responsibility for the final version.

AI Cannot Be an Author

Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors.

AI systems cannot:

Make scientific judgments.
Take responsibility for published work.
Approve the final manuscript.
Disclose conflicts of interest.
Fulfill the responsibilities required of authors under international publication standards.

Only humans who meet the journal's authorship criteria may be listed as authors.

AI-Generated Images, Figures, and Data

Authors must not use AI tools to fabricate or manipulate:

Experimental results.
Scientific images.
Microscopy images.
Medical images.
Graphs.
Figures.
Data.
Videos.

Image enhancement using AI is acceptable only when it does not alter the scientific meaning of the original data and is fully disclosed when appropriate.

Fabrication or falsification of research data using AI constitutes research misconduct.

Use of AI in Peer Review

Reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts or unpublished data into publicly available AI systems or large language models.

Submitted manuscripts are confidential documents.

Reviewers remain responsible for preparing independent, objective, and confidential evaluations.

Use of AI by Editors

Editors may use AI tools only for administrative support, including:

Language improvement.
Formatting assistance.
Detection of incomplete metadata.
Editorial workflow support.

Editors must not rely on AI systems to make editorial decisions.

Final decisions regarding manuscript acceptance or rejection remain solely the responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief or the assigned Handling Editor.

Confidentiality

Authors, reviewers, and editors should exercise caution when using AI services that transmit uploaded content to external servers.

Confidential manuscripts, reviewer reports, personal information, unpublished research, and proprietary data should not be shared with AI systems unless their privacy and data handling policies explicitly permit such use and applicable institutional and legal requirements are satisfied.

Ethical Use of AI

The journal encourages the responsible use of AI technologies while maintaining:

Academic honesty.
Scientific integrity.
Transparency.
Reproducibility.
Accountability.
Respect for intellectual property.
Compliance with research ethics.

The journal does not permit the use of AI to deceive reviewers, fabricate results, manipulate images, generate false citations, or otherwise misrepresent research.

Editorial Assessment

Editors may request additional information regarding the use of AI during manuscript preparation.

Where undisclosed or inappropriate AI use is identified, the journal may request clarification, require revision, reject the manuscript, or take further editorial action in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics Policy.

Post-Publication Issues

If inappropriate or undisclosed AI use is identified after publication, JRIS may issue:

A correction (Erratum or Corrigendum);
An Expression of Concern;
A Retraction; or
Another editorial notice, as appropriate.

These actions will be taken in accordance with the journal's publication ethics procedures and internationally recognized best practices.
